PUBLIC LIBRARY POONCH SEEKS ATTENTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A library is a place where many books
are kept. Most libraries are public and let people take the books to use in
their home. Most libraries let people borrow books for several weeks. Some
belong to institutions, for example, companies,
churches,
schools,
and universities.
Also a person's bookshelves
at home can have many books and be a library. The people who work in libraries
are librarians
Library is not merely
a store containing the books, instead a treasure of knowledge and place where
we attain a mental peace. Library creates conducive environment for the people
who want to develop their minds, open up new windows to explore the world and
make new friends. A library is of no use until a reader has an easy access and
adequate place and environment to go through them. The Public Library, located
in Poonch Fort demolished in earthquake in 2005, later shifted to DIC
Poonch. More the 13 thousands books retrieved there in stands useless,
stink badly, which may cause health hazards for the readers. In several
representation to concerned authorities in 2016 and 2017, I put down the issues
like #writing-off the retrieved books, scarcity of staff, inadequate
infrastructure, Scarcity of #Pahari and #Gojri literature and sought the
earlier redressals. Former Deputy Commissioner, Poonch also endorsed my
representation and forwarded to the Director Libraries, J&K. But the
redressal is still awaited.
